A man who allegedly drove a stolen SUV into a shop in Melbourne's north before he set the business on fire was out on bail at the time.
Stevan Khoshaba, 36, faced Melbourne Magistrates Court charged with arson, trespassing, stealing a Toyota RAV4 and committing an indictable offence on bail.
Khoshaba appeared in court with bandages around his hands and leg, with a cut on his scalp.
"He has burns to both hands and left leg and he was on morphine and other drugs, in the hospital," his lawyer told the court on Saturday.
The accused arsonist was in "a lot of pain" and needed to see someone in custody for pain relief, according to the lawyer.
There was no application for bail and Khoshaba was remanded in custody for a filing hearing next week.
