RFS says more South Coast homes may come under threat from Currowan bushfire today

As news emerges of properties lost and damaged after yesterday's Currowan bushfire emergency the RFS says more homes may come under threat today. 

The RFS has confirmed a property along the Clyde River has been destroyed in the fire with more property loss likely.  

Defending life and property will continue to be the main focus for crews today as they face another day of strong westerly wind gusts. 

The fire remains at Watch & Act level as of midday, 3rd December, but this could change at any time. Continue to go to www.rfs.nsw.gov.au for the latest information about the fire. 

The RFS has also asked people not to travel between Ulladulla and Dolphin Point Road unless absolutely essential. 

The Princes Highway is officially closed between Dolphin Point Road and the Kings Hwy turnoff. 

Here is the latest information from the RFS. 

A fire is burning between Batemans Bay and Ulladulla. The fire has burnt more than 24,000 hectares and is not yet under control.

Current Situation

  • The fire is burning in a east and north-easterly direction, towards the area of Termeil, Bawley Point and Pebble Beach.
  • The southern edge of the fire is burning towards East Lynne and Benandarah.
  • Crews have been actively defending properties in the Bundle Hill area and are in the vicinity of Kioloa to provide property protection if required.
  • The fire crossed the Princes Highway in a number of locations north of East Lynne and south of Termeil.
  • The Princes Highway is closed between Turmeil and the Kings Highway turnoff. Check Live Traffic NSW for updates.
  • Today strong westerly winds are forecast this will continue to push the fire predominately in an easterly direction.

Advice

Areas west of the Princes Highway between Termeil and East Lynne.

  • Monitor conditions. Take advice from firefighters in the area and follow your bush fire survival plan.

Areas between Bawley Point and North Durras, including Kioloa, Depot Beach, Pebbly Beach and Pretty Beach.

South Durras area.

  • Leave now towards Batemans Bay if safe to do so.

Termeil area.

  • Leave now towards Ulladulla if safe to do so.

Evacuation Centres

  • Ulladulla Civic Centre - 81B Princes Highway, Ulladulla.
  • Hanging Rock Sports Club Function Centre - Hanging Rock Place, Batemans Bay.

  • People are encouraged to register online at Register Find Reunite before attending evacuation centres.

If you are threatened by fire

  • Do not be in the path of the fire.
  • Protect yourself from the heat of the fire. Wear protective clothing and footwear. Cover all exposed skin.
  • If the fire impacts, seek shelter in a solid structure to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
  • If your life is at risk, call Triple Zero (000).
