A victim's impact statement is expected to be read out before the court today.
The sentencing of serial paedophile Maurice Van Ryn will continue in the Bega District Court today.
Van Ryn is in jail for the sexual abuse of nine children, these offences occurred between 2003 and 2014.
He is being sentenced today for new charges of aggravated sexual assault against a teenage boy aged between 14 and 16 years of age, in 2010 and 2011.
Van Ryn pleaded guilty to the new sexual assault charges last month.
He's been in custody since his bail was revoked in December 2014. He'd committed another sex crime against a child while on bail.
In September 2015 he was sentenced to a maximum sentence of 13 years jail, however the sentence was increased to 18 years on appeal in 2016 and his non parole period increased. Van Ryn then appealed and because of a clerical error his sentence was reduced to 17 years and 9 months, with two months taken off his non parole period. His earliest release date is currently the 9th of April, 2028.
