The Liberal candidate for Gilmore Warren Mundine has repainted his election bus after questions were raised as to why he was advertising the Liberal Party would increase the aged pension, when it's not one of their policies.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison defended Mr Mundine yesterday saying the promise was in reference to incremental rises to the aged pension.
Incremental rises occur no matter who is in government.
The Department of Human Services says: "The Age Pension rates will next increase on 20 September 2019. Pension rates and the upper thresholds for the assets and income tests (ie for those who are eligible for a part Pension) are adjusted in March and September each year. The lower limits (ie for those for are eligible for the full Pension) change in July each year."
"The Australian Bureau of Statistics evaluates these increases based on changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), Male Total Average Weekly Earnings, and the Pensioner and Beneficiary Living Cost Index."
The Labor candidate for Gilmore Fiona Phillips says Mr Mundine must apologise to the people in the Gilmore. She says misleading local pensioners is unacceptable. East Coast Radio has contacted Mr Mundine for comment.
