The electricity bill mistake

It was an electricity bill they never saw coming the far south coast couple from Moruya Heads had the shock of their lives, when they received a bill worth more than $1,700 dollars.

Archie Smith and Denice Bates are your everyday citizens who are on a pension moderately using electricity where needed, Mr Smith said, "on average during the billing cycle the cost works out to be around $420 dollars, but the recent bill was nearly four times greater".

The couple had tried to contact their provider EnergyAustralia a number of times, but didn't have much luck and were told to pay the expected amount.

We did some investigation on their behalf and contacted EnergyAustralia they responded and reviewed the couples account and found an error had been made.

A spokesperson from the company said, "inaccuracies with meter readings aren’t a frequent occurrence but they do happen.

In this case, an administrative error was made by the distribution company following a physical meter reading.

We’ve cancelled the incorrect bill and contacted Mrs Bates and Mr Smith to apologise".

This is a good reminder to all far south coast residents to check your electricity bill, and if it doesn't look right get in contact with your local provider.
