Dog found but Peter still missing

86-year-old man Peter Claux who disapeared around the Bournda area, north of Merimbula in June remains missing however his dog Buddy has been found. 

South Coast Police have confirmed the seven-year-old labrador was found on Wednesday (August 10) afternoon, on a property on Widgeram Road, Bournda, around 10 weeks after Peter and Buddy were first reported missing on 2 June 2022. 

The dog had reportedly lost around 8kg and was covered in ticks and taken to a local veterinary clinic.

Chief Inspector and District Inspector for South Coast Police, John Sheehan, said he was in reasonable condition condsidering the length of time he’s been missing. 

“It’s pretty remarkable that Buddy has come out of the bush after that length of time,” Inspector Sheehan, said. 

“He had sores on his feet, he was covered in ticks and he was wet,” he said. 

“We will do a review now in relation to where Buddy was found and adjust our search area slightly and do some more searching next week.”

Peter was reported missing after his vehicle – a 1991 maroon coloured Subaru sedan with NSW registration AHF 81P – was located parked in Widgeram Road, Bournda, just north of Tura Beach.

Emergency Services searched the bushland in Bournda National Park the weekend after Peter went missing but are still yet to find Peter.

Peter is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 170cm tall with a thin build, grey hair and brown eyes. He walks hunched over.

Police are asking Anyone with information about Peter’s whereabouts – including anyone who saw Peter’s vehicle parked on Widgeram Road, Bournda prior to 11.30am last Wednesday – to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
