Just after 4.30pm last Friday (May 13), an 11-year-old child was allegedly approached by an unknown male driving a white single cab Toyota Landcruiser utility, on New Buildings Road, in Wyndham.

Police have been told the male spoke to the child, before driving from the scene.

The matter was reported to police, and officers attached to South Coast Police District have commenced inquiries.

The man has been described as aged in his early 30s, and was wearing a black shirt and a black baseball cap at the time.

Detective Acting Inspector with South Coast Police, Jason Jerdin told East Coast Radio it's an ongoing investigation.

"The Criminal Investigations team have been out to the area canvasing for witnesses and CCTV and that side of things," Detective Jerdin said.

"It's an ongoing investigation into that matter, we just urge parents and people (in the area) to be vigilant," he said.

"If they do have any information in relation to that as well to contact Bega Police or Crime Stoppers.

"If they do hear anything or their child speaks of that, if they can contact police first and foremost, so we can undertake any investigations to establish what has occured and what concern there is for the public and then get that out there."
