Australia’s largest and most successful charity personal watercraft event, that’s been going for over 25 years, the Variety Jet Trek, has taken off from Batemans Bay this morning (Monday February 27).
More than 220 ‘Jet Trekkers’ who have spent the year fundraising, departed from the Batemans Bay Boat Ramp at 7am today, on their way to Coffs Harbour to raise money for Variety the Children’s Charity.
There will be over $20,000 worth of vital funding and assistance provided to more than 430 kids over the week long adventure, including 20 new bikes to be gifted to Year 5 students at Batemans Bay Public School.
The bikes will allow for a lunchtime Leadership Program to be run, taking students on bike riding sessions. The aim of the session is to develop the students’ skills in leading a ride and developing their sense of self within the community.
The Yamaha Variety Jet Trek is a truly unique event that combines adventure, fundraising, and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of kids in need. It has raised over $3.7 million since its inception in 1998.
91 riders and over 220 people will take part in this year’s event with over 820km to be travelled on the water.
