Queen Elizabeth II has passed away at the age of 96 at her Balmoral home and South Coast locals can pay tribute to the late Queen.
Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips, told East Coast Radio the queen was truly loved by local people on the South Coast, with many feeling her loss deeply.
“Queen Elizabeth the second has been around for seven decades and we’ve always known her in that role, and seen her lead through some of the most difficult times of those 70 years,” Ms Phillips said.
“So there’s a lot of people in shock today who are quite saddened by her passing.”
A condolence book is now available at Fiona’s Nowra office with a second book to be available at her Batemans Bay office next week.
The book will allow those in the Eurobodalla to share their heartfelt messages with the Royal Family with the books to be sent to Buckingham Palace and archived by the Commonwealth.
“The Queen embodied and exhibited a timeless decency and an enduring calm,” Ms Phillips said.
“My thoughts are with the entire Royal Family at this incredibly sad and difficult time.”
These messages will be sent to Buckingham Palace and archived by the Commonwealth.
“I think it’s just a lovely way for people to share their thoughts and many people have their own special stories and memories of the queen,” Ms Phillips said.
“It’s a really important opportunity for people to be able to pass on their condolences,” she said.
The flag at the honourstone in Batemans Bay will fly at half-mast for the next 10 days to pay respects to Queen Elizabeth II.
“To be queen for seven decades is incredible and I don’t think it’s something we will ever see again,” Ms Phillips said.
“May she rest in eternal peace.”
