People in Greater Melbourne are reporting their homes shook around 1:30am today (Friday June 30) due to a 4.6 magnitude earthquake at Rawson, half an hour north of Moe.

Geoscience Australia said the tremor was felt as far away as Orbost in Eastern Victoria.

Closer to home, the South Coast experienced an earthquake on Thursday morning as well.

A 2.2 magnitude quake at a depth of three kilometres, hit around 2km offshore of Corunna, between Narooma and Wallaga Lake, at 8:05am yesterday.

There have been no reports of shaking houses or damage in the region.

It’s not the first time an earthquake has been reported in that area.

A 2.8 magnitude quake hit the South Coast in a similar location on 11 March 2022 (pictured above). That quake was also out at sea from Corunna and Mystery Bay but was closer to 7km offshore.
