The peak body for parachuting in Australia has expressed its condolences over the death of local pilot and parachute legend following his death on Saturday afternoon.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau spent yesterday interviewing witnesses to the crash at Moruya including some of those who jumped out of the plane Paul Smith was flying just minutes before it crash into dense bushland.
The Australian Parachute Federation (APF) has released a statement thanking emergency services for their response.
“This is incredibly distressing and their thoughts and hearts are with everyone at the scene, the pilot’s family and friends, and the entire skydiving community which is in shock,” CEO Stephen Porter said.
The APF administers and regulates the sport skydiving in Australia under the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).
