‘The Bega Four’ charged with murder and refused bail

Three men and a woman will front court today after being charged with murder and refused bail.

‘The Bega Four’ arrested during simultaneous raids at Bega and Bemboka yesterday following an exhaustive six week investigation by Strike Force Nakstone detectives into the alleged killing of 43-year-old Gordon Kessey in the town.

Police have confirmed the local man was stabbed to death in a park on East Street in the early hours of Monday October 6 after an altercation between two groups.

A second man, 45-year-old Benjamin Smith also suffered stab wounds and was taken to South East Regional Hospital in a stable condition. He has since been released from hospital.

The three men, aged 29, 32 and 34, and a 19-year-old woman have all been charged with murder and cause wounding / grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder.

The 32-year-old man and 19-year-old woman are also charged with possess unauthorised prohibited firearm.

They have all been refused bail overnight and will appear in court this morning.

Police say the doubled-edged dagger, they believe was used in the alleged incident, was not among the items seized in searches yesterday or at Glebe Wetlands and a nearby private property earlier this week.
