Pair trawling trial approved for the Far South Coast

Fishing net

A local fishing club is vowing to fight a recent decision by the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) to allow an 18-month pair trawling trial along the NSW coastline.

The Merimbula Big Game and Lakes Angling Club say they are very concerned by the decision, which allows two boats to connect a net between them and use it to collect bait fish, and have contacted local MPs Mike Kelly and Andrew Constance seeking their support.

Club secretary Chris Young says the decision is a disaster and will hurt a region that is known for its game fishing.
