Truck accident closes Princes Highway

Cobargo truck crash

The Princes Highway was closed for several hours in both directions near Cobargo on Tuesday night following a truck crash.

The crash occurred at 6.45pm on Tuesday evening five kilometres south of Cobargo, with the truck reportedly overturning while going down a hill, blocking both lanes of the highway.

Diversions were put in place for light traffic, while heavy vehicles were forced to remain at the scene until Wednesday morning.

Emergency services, Roads and Maritimes Services and a tow truck attended the scene, with the 52-year-old truck driver taken to Bega’s South East Regional Hospital with rib fractures and lacerations to his scalp and left ear.

One lane was reopened early on Wednesday with alternating traffic conditions, before the road was cleared and fully reopened a few hours later.
